Hello,

There are two speed sensors for the transmission. One is the input, and the other is output speed sensor.
Both located on the side of the transmission (see diagram).

Are you getting a check engine light for this issue?

If so what code(s) are you getting?

//www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

The code came up p0871. But I assumed it might be the speed sensors because I have the same problems as when everyone says they are going bad. It does leak transmission fluid a little from someone not sealing it properly when changing my fluid but that was done 3 months ago, and check engine light just came on a week ago. Thanks for your help.

The code P0871 can get triggered for several different reasons. Including wiring issues, sensor, it can even be the PCM.

I have attached the trouble shooting guide for the code below, this can give you an idea what could be the reason.

What are the symptoms of a failing speed sensor?

Most Common Symptoms of a Faulty Engine Speed Sensor Transmission revs higher before it changes gears. The car's transmission engages into overdrive late and sometimes will never go into that top gear. Brakes are sometimes harder than normal when coasting. Speedometer behaves erratically or sometimes does not work at ...

How do I check my speed sensor?

Disconnect the sensor from the housing on the transmission, as indicated in the repair manual for your car. Disconnect the sensor's wire coupling. Using the multimeter's voltmeter connect the probes to the ground and reference wires in the connector. If no voltage is received, the sensor is faulty.

Which transmission speed sensor controls the speedometer?

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is also commonly referred to as a transmission speed sensor or output shaft speed sensor. It is a small device—typically mounted somewhere on the transmission—that determines how fast your vehicle is going by measuring the rotation of a toothed wheel on a shaft inside the transmission.
