It was the low oil sign. Turns out this car does not have a change oil light.

What oil change alert? I don’t believe they exist on a 14 Impreza. If you’re referring to the yellow oil light, that is the low oil indicator. I can give you directions on how to reset that if you like.

I think your right I drove around and the light never came on, it must have been a low oil light.

Just had this happen in my 2012 same steering set up and no I/set. I read drive around for 10-30 miles but I disconnected the battery let it chill for 10 mins and hooked it back up then waited another 10 and it worked. As long as it's the low oil and not pressure that should work. Just make sure you have oil in the car.

Subaru Impreza: How To Reset Maintenance Oil Change Light (2012-2021)
When the preset maintenance period arrives, a notification screen will be displayed. You must change the corresponding maintenance item’s setting after performing an oil change or maintenance on your vehicle. Depending on your vehicle model, here are a few ways to reset the maintenance light on the 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 Subaru Impreza:
4th Generation (GJ GP)
For this fourth generation model, you can reset the maintenance light through the multi function display. There are 2 ways to do this, depending on your vehicle model year, here’s how to reset it:
2012-2014 Model Years
Time needed: 7 minutes.
Follow these instructions if your vehicle is made in 2012 2013 2014:
- Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
If your vehicle has the keyless starting system, press the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal
- Go to the SELECTION screen by using the ▲ or ▼ button
The button is located on the steering wheel
- Pull and hold the ⓘ/SET button to enter the menu
Pull the button for 3 seconds
- Select MAINTENANCE
Use the ▲ or ▼ button to scroll and pull ⓘ/SET to select
- Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL
In this menu you can set a maintenance reminder at a specific interval by adjust the Notification Date or Notification Distance
- Select SET when you finish setting up
Done!
2015-2016 Model Years
- Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
- Go to the SETTINGS screen by using the ▲ or ▼ button
- Hold down the ENTER button to enter the menu
- Select MAINTENANCE
- Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL
- Select SET when you finish setting up
5th Generation (GK GT)
This is the latest generation of the Subaru Impreza. Just like the previous generation, you can set the maintenance minder at a specific interval through multi function display. Here’s how to do it:
- Place the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
- Go to the SELECTION screen by pressing the INFO button repeatedly
- Pull and hold the ⓘ/SET button to enter the menu
- Select MAINTENANCE by using the ▲or▼ button to scroll and pull the ⓘ/SET button to select
- Select MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE or ENGINE OIL
- Select SET when you finish setting up
Repeat this guide to reset Oil Filter or Tires if needed.
