Providing Independent Living Options for Individuals with Disabilities
Residential Options of Florida (ROOF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was created to increase housing opportunities for Floridians with disabilities. The mission of ROOF is to assist individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities including their families to successfully obtain and maintain affordable, inclusive housing of their choice.
ROOF’s vision is that every community in Florida will provide housing choices and independent living options that meet the needs of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
In today’s challenging housing environment, many of us have concerns about where we will live. For developmentally disabled adults and their families, it can be even more difficult to locate affordable living options. Many life events can trigger a change in living arrangements resulting in a need to consider housing options. ROOF provides options for people with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who want to live in the community and pursue independence.
ROOF is dedicated to addressing three major problems facing individuals with disabilities and families who have disabled children.
Problem #1:
There are not enough affordable housing options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Problem #2:
There are not enough affordable housing options for families with children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Problem #3:
Aging parents do not have the solution to provide lifetime housing and care for their adult children who have disabilities.
