The Free Dental Program is a partnership of nearly 20 community agencies with leadership provided from the University of Washington Dental School, with UW dentists and dental students delivering core dental services. The program provides dental treatment to Medicaid-eligible children and their parents. Dental screening and treatment is also provided for special populations, including low income veterans, in a companion outreach program called "House Calls".

With the increased demand of adult care, Community Health Partners has expanded access to dental care to low income adults 60+ years of age, by offering quarterly dental clinics for Seniors

In Washington state, Medicaid insurance is called Apple Health. Who is Eligible for Apple Health? 

People of all ages may be eligible for coverage under Apple Health, including yourself, your parents, and your children. The Washington State Health Care Authority’s website details all the ways you may be eligible for Apple Health. Click the link below that best describes you and/or your family to learn more.

How Much Does Apple Health Cost? 

Apple Health premiums are either free or low-cost depending on income level. Even if you are working, you and your family might still be eligible for Apple Health. The Health Care Authority’s website lets you know how much your premiums will be (if anything) based on your eligibility.

How Can I Enroll in Apple Health?

You can enroll in Apple Health at any point during the year on the Washington Healthplan Finder. If you do not qualify for Apple Health, the Washington Healthplan Finder has many other insurance options for you to choose from. 

About 7-10 days after applying for Apple Health coverage, a ProviderOne services card will be mailed to you. This is a plastic ID card that looks like other health insurance ID cards. Take this card with you to your doctor and dentist appointments. Providers use this card to make sure your service is covered.

What is Covered for Dental Care? 

Dental services for children 

Apple Health pays for covered dental services for eligible children, age 20 and younger. The Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children see a dentist by 12 months of age. Be sure to check the Health Care Authority’s website for the most up to date and accurate list of what is covered services. 

Some covered dental services include but are not limited to: 

  • Routine exams 
  • Cleaning 
  • X-rays 
  • Sealants 
  • Fillings 
  • Crowns 
  • Fluoride application 
  • Extractions (pulling teeth) 
  • Orthodontic services are available for children with cleft palate or other serious dental problems (covers medically necessary services with prior authorization). 

Dental services for adults

Apple Health (Medicaid) pays for covered dental services for adults (21 years and older). Be sure to check the Health Care Authority’s website for the most up to date and accurate list of what is covered services. 

Some covered dental services include but are not limited to: 

  • Routine exams 
  • Cleaning 
  • X-rays 
  • Fillings  
  • Fluoride application 
  • Extractions (pulling teeth) 
  • Nitrous Oxide 
  • Other limited dental services, including: 
    • Periodontal (gum disease) 
    • Root canal (front teeth only) 
    • Dentures/Partials 
    • Oral Surgery
