Wow, that sounds like my first car. 1992 Honda Accord, 79k miles when I got it, showroom condition, litteraly my great grandmas car she only used for church and groceries on Sunday. I was it's second owner for only $500. I want to make it clear how nice this thing was, and how even $4000 would have been a good deal. This was way too nice for me.

I crashed it into a Jeep, rebuilt the front end, hauled crap like it was a truck, and changed the oil like... Twice... in the four years I had it. I was a horrible owner to that nugget of a Honda, and it never let me down. Except for that one time I ran it dry, but that was my fault, not the cars.

I'm new to this thread and this topic might be super over done but I wanted to hear other people's stories (at least the ones who don't mind answering it multiple times).

For me, it was my mom's 98 Lexus ES300. She is not a car person at all by any means. Only oil changes were done when the engine light would come on, tire replacement, and maybe fluid change every forever and then. 0 issues with the suspension. No issues with the engine whatsoever. No electronics broken either. It lasted us 450k miles after buying it brand new with just basic services. We eventually gave away the car to someone who was in need at my mom's church. And the person who got the car still drives it sitting at 530k+ miles now (though Idk what type of services she had to do after we gave it to her). Only problem was the paint fading on top/hood/trunk from the sunlight as the car was always parked outside.

I just realized how much I appreciated that Lexus after my ownership of 2016 bmw m235i and it's costly services / intervals.

-oil change every 5k miles

-coolant/break fluid flush every 2 years

-valve cover gasket/oil filter housing gasket/oil pan gasket replacement every 80k miles

-coolant hose exploded at 35k

-had to replace the front lower arms at 40k

-charge pipe blew up at 45k

-transmission/diff flush at 60k miles

-walnut blast 100k miles

-break pad/rotor replacement, etc. the list goes on and on.

So we all know its a good idea to buy used in decent condition and drive it until the wheels fall off. What are historically, factually or even anecdotal the most reliable solid built / affordable cars of all time?

According to my own personal experience: 2004-2007 and 2011/2012 Hyundai Elantra

90's - early 2000's BMW 3 Series, especially Diesel engines.

Honda Civic and Honda Accord from the 90's, early - mid 2000's if you can find one with decent miles.
