Omea solo and ensemble 2022 music list

OMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival Participants, I’m proud of everyone who took the time and effort to take their music to the next level. Solo & Ensemble is one of the most challenging things we do, and in the end its all about personal growth. I hope you all grew musically and learned something through the process.

In particular, the mentorship I have the privilege to witness every year as our older students coaching younger students is always heartwarming. Also, the initiative of students to run their own ensembles at a very high level is also very commendable.

I will have adjudicator feedback forms & scores for students on Monday.

I’m only posting OSAA Solo & Ensemble State Contest Qualifying results. If you are a District Champion, you automatically qualify to go to the State Contest. If you are an Alternate, you qualify to go to state but will only be scheduled if there is space available.

I will explain in further detail what all of this means in class on Monday.

Congrats to everyone who had the courage to participate, I’m very proud of you all!!!

OMEA Solo & Ensemble Required Music Lists

For the most current lists that are updated in "real time", CLICK HERE for the searchable database on the OMEA web site. Click on the MENU button in the upper right, and from there, click on the magnifying glass on the next page (upper left area).  Next, click on HS Solo and Ensemble, then on the next menu, what type of entry you are looking for (woodwind, brass, percussion, etc.)  In the next menu, select solo or ensemble type, and then search by the type of ensemble.  For solos, click on the instrument you are searching for.  The list will then be shown, starting with Class A and scrolling down through Class C. When you complete your application form, the SONG CODE is listed at the bottom of each composition entry.  For information on required movements or suggested cuts, if applicable, click on the title of the song and all information will be shown to the right.

The Solo & Ensemble Required Lists are being updated annually in rolling revisions. Please check compositions every year. Just because they were on the list does not mean they still are!

Scales (winds) & Rudiments (drums) are required as part of solo performances and are included in the final rating. These should be performed from memory.

Scale & Rudiment requirements are also listed on the web site link above.  Follow the scales listed for your class of solo.

Drum Soloists will be asked to perform 3 rudiments from memory.

Wind Soloists will be asked to perform one chromatic and one major scale from the appropriate list from memory.

Clarinet Soloists will be asked to perform their scales two octaves.

Trombone & Mallet Percussion Soloists will be asked to perform two major scales from the appropriate list.

Piano Soloists will be asked to perform two major scales, two octaves, hands together from the appropriate list.

Students performing as members of an ensemble are not required to perform scales.
