All three University of Illinois System universities again ranked high among public institutions and universities nationwide in the 2022-23 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) ranked 13th among public national universities and 41st among national universities, both steps up from the last round of rankings. Gies College of Business ranked No. 7 in public undergraduate business programs. Grainger College of Engineering ranked seventh among national universities for undergraduate engineering programs, with its Department of Computer Science ranking fifth in undergraduate computer science programs.
“It is always good to see rankings that recognize and celebrate the outstanding quality of the educational experiences we offer. University of Illinois Chicago
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) climbed four spots to No. 42 among public national universities. In a broader measure, UIC landed among the top 100 national universities by jumping six spots to tie for 97th. UIC also gained 10 spots to be rank ninth in the nation in undergraduate nursing. “U.S. News & World Report’s rankings are the latest indicator of the impactful teaching and learning environment that is accessible at Chicago’s only public research university,” UIC Interim Chancellor Javier Reyes said. “UIC continues to be a place where success and achievement are cultivated, and an affordable world-class education is propelling our next generation of leaders, innovators and scholars to reach their goals.”
University of Illinois Springfield
For the fourth year in a row, the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) ranked as the top public regional university in Illinois. It bumped up a spot to be the third best public university in the Midwest regional category. UIS also ranked as the sixth best college for veterans in the Midwest Region. - The Engineering Mechanics (EM) major is the ideal choice for students who combine a love of engineering with a passion for mathematics, physics, computation, and other sciences
- With roots in physics and mathematics, Engineering Mechanics is the basis of all the mechanical sciences: civil engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering and aeronautical and aerospace engineering
- Engineering Mechanics students are also encouraged to engage in undergraduate research with a faculty member
- Unlike in most engineering majors, students in the EM program select a Secondary Field Option to build a set of specialized skills
- there are seven named secondary field options: Biomechanics, Computational Mechanics, Engineering Science and Applied Math, Experimental Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials and Solid Mechanics
