Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Curriculum

Besides science classes to help you learn about the human body, you'll learn how to expertly employ and interpret sonographic imaging, follow regulations, and effectively communicate with patients. Several clinical internships are a core part of Monroe’s program.

To succeed in the Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and earn your degree, you must be organized, disciplined, and adaptable. What degree is best for sonography?

Most sonographers hold an associate degree, but if you're looking to move into management, earning a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography could be the best path. A bachelor's degree usually takes four years and offers more opportunity to explore different ultrasound specialties.

How do I become a sonographer in Washington state?

Though not legally required, many employers do ask for professional certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). The only way to earn certification is by taking and passing their exam. Tests are administered by Pearson Vue, and there are numerous locations throughout Washington.
