Atlas managed to defend its title in back-to-back Liga MX seasons now, a feat that has only been accomplished by 3 teams. In 2004 UNAM went back-to-back, then again in 2013 while in 2014 Leon won back-to-back titles. Now in 2021 and 2022 Atlas joins that short list of back-to-back champions in short tournaments. It was a packed house in Dignity Health Sports Park as both Cruz Azul fans and Atlas fans arrived early and cheered on with passion their respected teams. This was a match-up of the last 2 Champions for Liga MX; the so-called Campeones Cup.  As both teams began to play, they appeared somewhat rusty. That was expected as both are still prepping for the upcoming season. In the blink of an eye, the game ended in a tie and we were looking at penalty kicks. The penalty kicks were exciting as the crowd held their breath and roared after every scored penalty shot.
