About My Hair: I heat style my fine-textured hairI heat style my hair a few times a week, and my hair has a natural wave pattern to it that’s mostly in the back of my head that I am constantly trying to smooth out and straighten. My hair is a fine texture, but I have a lot of it, so to the naked eye, it looks quite thick. Since it’s fine, I am leary of using too many styling products or those that feel oily, as I don’t want my hair to look or feel greasy. I have a naturally oily scalp, so if my hair has any kind of excess oil in it, it can completely weigh my hair down. The length of my hair is medium, it lays just a bit below my shoulders. Some haircare brands that I use regularly are Oribe, Christophe Robin, Kerastase, and Briogeo. The Feel: Very slipperyThe feel of this serum is incredibly slippery. It doesn’t feel like an oil perse, it feels more like a serum texture but you can feel the slip as soon as you apply it to your hands. Byrdie / Ashley Rebecca The Scent: Citrus freshI personally really like the scent of this serum, but the fragrance is quite strong and anyone who is opposed to scent should know that from the start. The serum has a fresh citrus scent to it and smells like oranges. The Results: Sleek and shiny hairI tried two different application methods and was pleased each time after both—My hair was beyond shiny and silky to the touch. First, I applied a dime-sized amount of serum to towel-dried hair from the middle of my hair to the ends (avoiding the scalp) and then blow-dried my hair and styled it. I also used it as a finishing serum after blowdrying hair to add shine, and both times it worked equally as well, giving my hair a sleek, shiny, and healthy look that lasted all day. I worked my way up to applying a very tiny bit of serum from the top of my head to the ends, and since I used very little product, my hair did not turn out greasy or weighed down at all. I personally cannot rave enough about this serum and the results it gave my hair. When asked if I could wear this serum every day, Celebrity hairstylist Millie Morales gave some expert tips on Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum, noting, “Yes, you can. It’s all dependent on your hair type and routine. You can use it on wash day only as well to help manage frizz. This serum can benefit you in many ways, even on curls!” For an added tip, Morales suggests working the serum into your hands before applying, “I love to warm it a little bit on my hands before applying it. Just for a few seconds, I rub my hands and I apply it from the ends to the middle.” If you want to combine the serum with other products, Morales recommends mixing it with a leave-in cream, “Apply a couple of pumps of a leave-in cream with the serum to help combat strong frizz.” Byrdie / Ashley Rebecca The Value: Too good to be trueFor the price of $5 and the size of this serum, it almost seems too good to be true. It’s an absolute bargain and performs as well as higher-priced luxury brand haircare serums.
