WHAT KIND OF CONTACT SOLUTION FOR SLIME?

Check the ingredients of your contact solution and make sure that it contains a mix of sodium borate and boric acid.

We like Target brand Saline Solution for Sensitive Eyes!

UPDATE: We are finding that using contact solution sometimes results in a more watery slime when you want to play with it the next day.

However, saline solution will not.  We have been making saline solution slime and saline solution fluffy slime recipe all the time!

WHAT TYPE OF GLITTER FOR SLIME?

Although we have a tons of glitter and confetti, we just had to buy more and found a set of glitter bottles called tinsel glitter. This type of glitter gives our contact solution slime recipe a whole new look.

We decided to choose aqua, purple, and magenta for our slime colors, and it’s a stunning effect once they start to blend together. Now, I have had a few people discouraged with the fact that eventually the colors all mix together and become one color, and yes this happens!

If you have different types of slime that are of similar shades, it still looks cool. If you make a rainbow of slime, you will end up with an ugly dirty color by the end.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SLIME?

How does slime work? Well the borate ions in the slime activator  {sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid} mixes with the PVA {polyvinyl-acetate} glue and forms this cool stretchy substance. This is called cross linking!

The glue is a polymer and is made up of long, repeating, and identical strands or molecules. These molecules with flow past one another keeping the glue in a liquid state.

When you add the borate ions to the mixture, it starts to connect these long strands together. They begin to tangle and mix until the substance is less like the liquid you started with and is thicker and rubberier like slime!

Picture the difference between wet spaghetti and leftover spaghetti the next day. As the slime forms the tangled molecule strands are much like the clump of spaghetti!

Is slime a liquid or solid? We call it a Non-newtonian fluid because it’s a little bit of both!
