Airport Traveling Tips

Fort Lauderdale Airport peak hours are between 6 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. If you have a domestic flight at the FLL airport, make sure to reach two hours prior to the flight time, while pad in an extra three hours for your international flight. These are officially recommended time guidelines to avoid delays as TSA security checks and procedures could take a lot of time and cause flight delays.  If you run into any problems, you should contact help counters and staff at the airport. Here are some additional tips for flying through FLL:

  • Before going to the airport, it’s recommended that you take a look at the FLL airport map.
  • To pick up a passenger from the Fort Lauderdale airport, go to the curbside on the arrivals section (located on the lower level, baggage claim section) only if your passenger has arrived at the spot. You cannot park at the arrivals curbside as this area is for active loading of vehicles and quick pick-ups.
  • If your passenger has not arrived on the curbside and you are not aware of their exact location, you should go to the Cell Phone Waiting Area. You can park your car for free and wait for your passenger. You can also call your passenger from this area. All four terminals of the FLL airport are nearby this waiting area. You will also see big screens showing flight status and wait times in the Cell Phone Waiting Area.
  • You can also park your car in the garage of the airport. It’s free for the first 20 minutes. After that, you will be charged $3/hour.
  • Picking up is easier if you know the terminal where your passenger is arriving. You can identify your terminal based on your airline name. Scroll down to know more about FLL terminals details.
  • For drop-offs, go to the Departures section on the upper level of the airport. You can pull up your car on the curb in front of the terminals and quickly drop your passenger. Don’t park and leave your car in this section.
  • You can also park your car in a parking garage and accompany your passenger inside the departures terminal. For the first 20 minutes, parking in the garage is free.
