WIX makes "XP" versions of their filters that are wire-backed and have synthetic filtering media instead of cellulose media. WIX filters appear to have very good quality and tick all of the boxes for an oil filter (metal end caps, coil spring, etc..). Current prices for the direct fit 51358XP filter start around $6.50 or $7.00 plus shipping from
Big Online Vendors. The bypass valve is 8psi, not 14, in case that matters. (Does it? I would expect that to match the filter media.) The part numbers are 51358XP (match), 51365XP (2.5" automotive), and 51356XP (3.25"
automotive). Here's a video showing the difference between regular and XP: Joined Aug 5, 2018 · 9 Posts
Found this quote on bobistheoilguy.com "According to Purolator, the Honda OEM filter bypass setting is 12 to 14 psi. WIX (NAPA Gold) builds their oil filters with a bypass setting of 8 to 11 psi, while AC Delco builds theirs to a setting of 11 to 17 psi. How much do these differences matter? I don't think anyone knows, even the engineers, and
each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. If you do lots of racing, you're probably better off with a higher bypass setting. Joined Jan 14, 2019 · 22 Posts

Awesome post/thread! Nothing like nerding out on oil filters! Haha. Recently used an "alternate" size oil filter on my car (so far so good, no leaks, ha). May give one of these a try on my next N400 oil change. Just a noticing here, there is a lot of love for WIX in the automotive world.

The EX500 used the same filter. I used the PL14610 that I had on the shelf when I changed my EX400's oil. If you want a car to cross-reference for looking up the longer filters, you can use the 1997 Ford Probe (4 cyl Base and 6 cyl GT both use the same filter).
http://web.archive.org/web/20180406...ki/index.php?title=Oil_Filter_Cross_Reference is the archived copy of the list from the EX500 wiki. It's pretty close to this list, but there are a few others on it (some that I've never heard of).

Just wanted to update on the Mobil 1 M1-110 filter. I guess the new revised part # is M1-110a I just installed one on my bike so it definitely fits. Got it at Walmart for $9. Also just switched to Mobil 1 Racing 4T...

I'm using a NAPA Proselect SFI-21356 filter (fits a 90's era Mazda Miata, among many other vehicles). Here's a link: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/PSW21356?vehicleAddPDP=true Filter fits fine, no leaks. It's made by WIX
and on sale for less than $4. It's about 3/4" longer than stock filter so if you're using a longer filter, be sure to account for the additional oil capacity it provides (took me more than 2 quarts). And btw, I don't see any impediments to using a longer filter so I'd guess the 3.5" ones will work just fine. One MAJOR note to using alternative filters, watch the overall outer diameter of the filter casing at the base near the gasket (***at the crimp joint***). There is a small projection or two
from the engine housing that extends below the filter mating surface and basically limits the diameter of the filter. So a slightly larger diameter filter may not fit. The one I installed fits but didn't have much room left over.

I recently moved back to my home town of Pacifica, CA. Exploring the local stores I wandered into O'Reilly's. I was pleased to find they carry a variety of motorcycle oils and Wix brand filters, #51358. The filter is expensive but their Castrol Power 1 is less expensive than Cycle Gear. Fyi, Ryco don't approve compatibility of their Z436 filter with the Kawasaki 400. They list their RMZ119 (stupidly expensive here in NZ right now $38.99) as interchangeable with the HF303 filter which is the Hi-Flo version specifically compatible with the Ninja 400. The Z436 filter might work ok, but it has a different seal diameter. 64mm OD vs
the technically correct filter with 62mm OD. SCA don't seem to be selling Hi-Flo here, just their own brand. Their Ninja 400 filter is RP303 What oil goes in a Kawasaki Ninja 400?A full synthetic four-stroke SAE 5W-40 engine oil suitable for use in high performance and competition four-stroke, Japanese and European motorcycle engines, including all high performance multi-cylinder, multi-valve, V-Twin, air or water-cooled sports or race replica models.

Is the Z400 and Ninja 400 the same?2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 & Z400 - What's New? “Why fix something when it ain't broke?” This is probably what was going through the minds of Kawasaki engineers while planning the 2023 Ninja 400 and Z400 because both motorcycles remain mostly the same, with the only exception being the engine.
