Minix neo z64 windows 10 install

MINIX NEO Storage is only compatible with the following models:

Apple MacBook 12" (2015, 2016, 2017)

Apple MacBook Air 13" (2018, 2019, 2020)

Apple MacBook Pro 13" (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019)

Apple MacBook Pro 15" (2016, 2017, 2018)

Apple MacBook Pro 16" (2019)

I received my Minix NEO Z64-W this morning. As of 2pm Eastern time it has been running nonstop. The first thing I did after setting it up was to install my own virus protection on it. I had a new subscription of Kaspersky for 3 devices, so I had 2 installs left after using one for my laptop. I took my LITE-ON external DVD/CD rewriteable drive, model number eBAU108, and plugged it into one of the open USB ports. I never actually expected it to just work and well, it did, so I then ran the Kaspersky install disc.

After that, I decided to install my PLAY ON server on the device. I hoped to use this device as my server so that I could then use my PLAY ON service on all my other devices, for instance my ps3, ROKU, ANDROID SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 phone, and my MINIX NEO X8-H plus device. Before I could do this properly I had to install all of the Windows updates to the Windows version 8.1 operating system that comes installed on the Minix NEO Z64-W.

Once I finished up with all of the updates PLAY ON server installed fine. It only pulls at medium level CPU performance through the PLAY ON server but that works well enough. Playback would be much smother especially at 1080p if it was able to run at high CPU performance, which by overclocking it can be done, but better than nothing as it comes standard and not having to mod it and void any and all warranties.

Live video is choppy as is all HD and high res video being played straight through the PLAY ON server program on the Minix NEO Z64-W. I did discover a nice workaround, which is to install Kodi and run PLAY ON under UPnP. Doing this allowed me to watch some of my PLAY ON content including 1080p live streams with little to no frame drops, which where subjected to 4 and 5 second frame drops and volume sync issues doing the same through the host program of PLAY ON. Also with Kodi all of my local content plays in flawless 1080p and this also includes some live streams, movies, and T.V. shows using many different add ON's through Kodi.

I then tried out the file browser to watch content, for instance live feed, T.V. shows, and movies through xfinity play, which I receive as a bundle with my internet and basic cable package from COMCAST, viewable through a web browser. It played every thing in full 1080p. Because flash player is installed you can do this and watch other flash player compatible media, like HULU for example straight from there website. 1080p is it's highest resolution it can output but I couldn't find anything it couldn't play so far.

My advice is if you are looking for a low power media server this is excellent for that. Web browsing is speedy using internet explorer and it seems Chrome browser runs twice as fast from statistics I've seen. E-mail from g-mail, AOL mail, Outlook and even my college e-mail all run flawlessly. I have yet to back up my copy of Windows, which I recommend everyone to do as the 2nd thing you do as soon as you set Windows up on this device. I also plugged in a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse 800, model number 1455, and after about 30 seconds of being plugging in with the USB dongle the drivers were installed automatically.

Now not being given the product key and having to search for the product ID and manually back up the copy of Windows is a pain. That's the deal with getting Windows preinstalled on devices these days so that's a problem that's pretty uniform in almost any Windows device of today. Second gripe is the amount of media storage. once you set up Windows before all the Windows updates even, your left with only 24.7GB of storage. Now that I have Kodi, PLAY ON, Kaspersky Internet security, VLC media player, Safe Money (Kaspersky app) and PLAY LATER program (from PLAY ON), I now only have 13.3GB left of free hard drive space/storage.

The operating system is only 32bit and not 64bit which I understand due to the hardware limitations. There are no USB 3.0 ports, and only the 2 USB 2.0 ports. only 10/100 mbps Ethernet, which puzzles me due to the fact that the Minix NEO X8-H plus which has up to a full gigabit Ethernet was produced months prior to the Minix NEO Z64-W and Minix NEO Z64-A. WI-FI is non dual band, as the Minix NEO X8-H plus has dual band WI-FI.

Amazon Prime video's played from Amazon's website, but suffers from frame drops and it doesn't really play in full 1080p. HULU plays with minor frame dropping in full 1080i. Both played through PLAY ON server, using Kodi, seemed to play 1080i/720p with none at all to extremely minor frame drops. NETFLIX through Kodi using PLAY ON server is the best of the 3 with no frame rate drops but as for video quality I would say 720i at best.

If your looking for a cheap compact computer to search the web, use as a server for things like PLAY ON or/and PLEX, read e-mail, use for social media, watch Youtube/other internet video content, and watch media through Kodi, then this is a really nice device for achieving those things with excellent results, except for some web video's won't be in full 1080p always and may have minor frame drop issues and/or buffering issues.

Now if your looking for a excellent android based media box that can surf the net, access e-mail, run any android app from the google play store, run Kodi with up to 4k video, stronger WI-FI dual band, gigabit Ethernet and other small perks over the Minix NEO Z64-W, then the Minix NEO X8-H plus is your answer.

If I didn't need a low power media server to receive my PLAY ON content and to receive my Comcast Xfinity cable content in full 1080p on my T.V. with a single device, then I would of purchased a second Minix NEO X8-H plus. I feel unless you want a cheap and low voltage media server running a full license windows 8.1 with Bing, also with optional windows 10 (coming in late July 2015 with free optional upgrade download for full license to windows 10), then I would purchase the Minix NEO Z64-W. Just for the full price of a licensed copy of windows 8.1 would cost you the price of the Minix NEO Z64-W alone. This would also make a amazing office PC for simple tasks, spread sheets, correspondence through e-mail with clients, and other simple tasks like that, then this device would be perfect.

This makes an amazing small app, light gaming, social media, e-mailing, media box for traveling or summer or winter homes with internet access or to use with pre-downloaded content. For the total of around $75 you can buy a 1TB laptop hard drive and a laptop hard drive enclosure and then you have a full 1TB of storage. If you then pick up a wireless keyboard air mouse anywhere from $17-$50 you then have a fully functional mouse, remote, and keyboard all in one. There's a lot of good and a lot of bad. It comes down to what you're wants out of this device.
