'It's the most devastating day of our lives': Family's tribute to hero Jack, 10, who 'died trying to save three boys he didn't know' after they fell into frozen lake

Neurologist near me that take blue cross blue shield

Jack Johnson (pictured main and left with his father) leapt into Babbs Mill Park lake on Sunday afternoon after hearing the screams of other children, his family have said. The brave 10-year-old was one of four children pulled from the icy water after the frozen surface broke apart while some were playing on it. Jack and three other boys aged six, eight, and 11, were taken to hospital in a critical condition after suffering cardiac arrests, but he and the two older boys could not be saved. The six-year-old remains in a critical condition in hospital, police confirmed today at a press conference near the scene of the tragedy. In a post on Facebook his aunt wrote: 'The 10-year-old boy is my nephew. He saw one go threw the ice and he ran and tried to save them. Our prayers and thoughts are with the other family. We are just broken over it. To find out he died trying to save three lads... That just sums him up. He was amazing.' A friend of the group has claimed that three of the boys went to help after one of them got their leg trapped in the ice in the moments before the tragedy, while a family friend has said Jack's grandfather 'ran from his house' into the water in a desperate attempt to save them. Tonight, there was an organised vigil at the lake (pictured top right) where residents and well wishers paid their respects to the three boys who died.

Frozen hell: Britain faces another day of travel chaos with drivers warned of 'lethal' icy roads - while rail strikes and plane delays set to bring more misery

Neurologist near me that take blue cross blue shield
Neurologist near me that take blue cross blue shield

Drivers are being urged to avoid the roads wherever possible - as slushy snow turns to black ice - creating potentially lethal conditions. Many local roads will be worse before they get better as a result of bitter weather predicted over the next few days. The AA has experienced a 135 per cent increase in the number of people calling for advice after a crash over the weekend compared with the same time last year. Heathrow Airport cancelled over 300 flights on Sunday night, while easyJet said it was doing 'all possible to minimise disruption for our customers'. The coming days will see a spate of strikes in the rail industry from RMT and other unions, with fears it will push commuters to use dangerous roads. Edmund King, president of the AA, has said ice can be more dangerous than snow due to its poor visibility. 'It gives a false sense of security,' he added. ' It really is a silent killer.'

Strike threat to 'life or death' 999 calls: Army drivers may not go to emergencies during ambulance crews walkout and 15,000 operations are put at risk as nurses' pay talks fail

Troops standing in for striking paramedics are unlikely to drive ambulances on life-threatening calls, Downing Street indicated last night. It is understood the military will be forced to observe speed limits and stop at red lights - limiting their ability to respond promptly to 999 calls. It came as Health Secretary Steve Barclay's talks with Pat Cullen, chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), to discuss looming strikes collapsed last night. The RCN's two days of action on December 15 and 20 are expected to result in up to 15,000 operations being cancelled, while health officials may block-book taxis to ferry non-urgent patients to hospital, MPs were told yesterday.

Corporate lawyer Andrew Bretherton, 49 (left), is on trial accused of raping an American woman in his west London flat after the pair shared a date in May 2008. Jurors had previously heard that he played the Guns 'N Roses song 'Welcome to the Jungle' on his stereo before pinning the woman face down onto his bed. But Mrs Keothavong MBE (inset, right with Bretherton), who met her husband in 2011 and married four years later, said Bretherton had 'never been remotely aggressive' and she was in 'disbelief' over the claims. 'The Andrew I know is a fantastic person, he is truly is a decent, decent man... a fantastic, fantastic father and great husband - he is very kind,' she told Inner London Crown Court.

Prospective buyers are unable to view Piers Court because the current tenants are refusing to leave and will not let estate agents or buyers in. The property has been put up for auction with a guide price of £400,000 less than the £2.9million it was sold for just four years ago. The eight-bedroom property is in the village of Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire. Novelist Evelyn Waugh bought it for £3,600 in 1937.

Prince Harry today astonishingly accused the Palace of 'lying to protect my brother' and claimed he and Meghan were the victims of 'institutional gaslighting' in his most incendiary attacks on the Royal Family yet. Appearing in a new trailer for their Netflix series, the Duke, 38, abandoned all pretence at restraint as he namechecked Prince William, 40, and took aim at unnamed people who he accused of deliberately misleading the public. 'They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us,' he said. Today's trailer also saw Harry say, 'I wonder what would have happened to us if we hadn't got out when we did', before Meghan, 41, added: 'I wasn't being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves'.

The crashes were caught on camera in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and shared on social media in a video viewed more than 700,000 times. In one clip, the driver of a silver Volkswagen is heard tooting their horn as a warning but is unable to bring the car to a halt before it slams into a black Vauxhall. A white BMW then also crashes into the back of that, causing a further pile up, as the driver of the Volkswagen jumps out from the behind the wheel, despite onlookers urging them not to. Footage also shows a group of six people trying to help a black people carrier back onto the road, as a cyclist rides precariously nearby. But their efforts were in vain as the car skids off the street, only just coming to a stop before hitting a fence. Another car is then seen sliding into some bollards, before a bus does the same, though the damage only appeared to be minor.

A young double amputee was left stranded at Gatwick Airport without his wheelchair for more than five hours after flights were delayed due to the adverse weather (left, pictured today). Tony Hudgell, eight, was on his way home after a four-day trip to Lapland, Finland, with his adoptive parents Paula and Mark Hudgell (right, pictured last week) when the incident occurred. It is claimed the Pride of Britain 2020 winner had his 'needs ignored' after waiting for hours for a wheelchair to arrive from off the airplane despite assistance being booked in advance. His family said that when the £6,500 wheelchair did finally arrive it 'was put on the conveyor belt and got twisted and bent', adding they would be lodging a complaint against the airline. Responding to the tweet, Jet2 said they were 'incredibly sorry' to hear about Tony's experience, and were looking into fixing the situation. Jet2 has been contacted for further comment.

Ed Linse (pictured left) battered his father Nicholas Clayton, 85 (pictured right) and mother Julia, 82, while saying: 'You let us down.' The brutal late night attack came after the 51-year-old repeatedly demanded that his parents 'compensated' him for his 'suffering' while studying at an all-boys public school in the 1980s. Retired engineer Mr Clayton spent five weeks in hospital after suffering head injuries consistent with being kicked, bitten, punched and strangled. His wife suffered bruising and a lump on her head.

Get ready for a virtual Christmas (again): Strikes and weather chaos mean MILLIONS won't return to offices until at least January as bosses give up trying to get staff in and families scrap parties to do 'festive dinner by Zoom' in echoes of Covid-era

Neurologist near me that take blue cross blue shield
Neurologist near me that take blue cross blue shield

Britons had to sacrifice seeing loved ones over the holiday period in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic - but now face having to do the same due to union barons shutting down critical services until January 10. Heavy snow and ice crippled London, the east and the south-east overnight with just 24 hours to go until union barons launch their mass walkout that will cripple train and bus services and the NHS, where nurses and paramedics will take industrial action. Britain's border force will disrupt people flying to see family, postal services will stop and hit Christmas deliveries and even driving examiners are downing tools over the coming weeks - hitting every part of British life. And now many families are facing up to the prospect of a bleak sense of deja vu - a Christmas at home and perhaps without family - but this time the driving force is a national strike in all but name. As a result, some may be feeling increasingly resigned to only seeing their loved ones via Zoom or other video conferencing tools once again - laying waste to the third Christmas in a row.

Theories have been circulating ever since the Malaysian Airlines passenger jet went down somewhere over the Indian Ocean with 239 people on-board in March 2014. The most persistent theory has centred on the pilot  - Zaharie Ahmad Shahand (pictured left) - and suggestions that it was a deliberate act. Last month, a landing gear door was found in the possession of a Madagascan fisherman. According to experts, it is the first piece of evidence to be found to suggest one of the Malaysian Airlines pilots acted deliberately. Top-right: A piece of wreckage from MH370 is seen in 2019.
