With more than 7,000 properties under 30 brand names, there is a Marriott hotel for everyone. And when it comes to choosing a Marriott credit card, there are multiple options from both Chase and American Express.

If you’re looking for a new card as you plan your trips for the remainder of 2022 and into next year, there are some solid limited-time offers on Marriott’s cobranded cards.

Yesterday, we learned of big changes to the Marriott Bonvoy cobranded credit cards portfolio. With the addition of two new cards to the lineup, updates to the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card and new welcome offers on three other cards, there's a great option available for every type of Marriott fan.

Let’s take a closer look at the current offers across all of Marriott’s cards to see which one makes the most sense for you.

THE POINTS GUY

Annual fee: $250 (see rates and fees).

Welcome offer: For a limited time, earn 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $4,000 in eligible purchases in the first three months of card ownership. Offer ends Jan. 11, 2023.

Is it worth it?

TPG values 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at $1,050.

This offers mid-tier perks, including complimentary Gold Elite status, solid points earning at Marriott properties and elite night credits. It does, however, lack a number of benefits that you might expect from a card with a $250 annual fee. You may, however, want to pick up the bonus points with this welcome offer.

Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card

Annual fee: $250.

Welcome offer: For a limited time, earn 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $4,000 in eligible purchases in the first three months of card ownership. Offer ends in January 2023 (exact date unknown).

Is it worth it?

TPG values 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at $1,050.

Whereas the Bevy is issued by American Express, this card comes from Chase. In effect, the two cards have the same benefits, meaning the perks that come with this card struggle to justify its $250 annual fee. However, the welcome bonus may be of interest to you.

The information for the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

THE POINTS GUY

Annual fee: $650 (takes effect for current cardmembers whose renewal dates are Jan. 1, 2023 or after, see rates and fees).

Welcome offer: For a limited time, earn 150,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $5,000 in eligible purchases in your first three months of card membership. Offer ends Jan. 11, 2023.

Is it worth it?

150,000 Bonvoy points are worth $1,260, according to TPG valuations. However, the main value of holding this card comes if you stay at Marriott properties on a somewhat regular basis.

That’s because the card confers valuable perks, including some new ones as of September 2022. You'll now get automatic Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, an annual free night award (worth up to 85,000 points), up to $300 in annual statement credits for eligible purchases at restaurants worldwide, Priority Pass lounge access and 25 elite qualifying night credits per year. Enrollment is required for select benefits.

Just remember that Marriott eliminated award charts in March 2022, so you may need to work harder to find a property at which to use these free nights. However, you can now top up all Marriott certificates using up to 15,000 points, meaning that you could use your free night award topped up with bonus points to book a night costing up to 100,000 points.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card

JOHN GRIBBEN/THE POINTS GUY

Annual fee: $95.

Sign-up bonus: Earn 3 Free Night Awards (each night valued up to 50,000 points) after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from your account opening. Certain hotels have resort fees.

Is it worth it?

TPG’s valuations peg 3 Free Night Awards up to 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at $1,260.

If you’re a frequent traveler loyal to Marriott, this is a great card to add to your wallet without a huge price tag. With the Marriott Boundless, you’re getting a sizable list of perks, including automatic Bonvoy Silver status as well as 15 elite qualifying nights every year. In addition, you’ll earn one credit toward the next level of elite status for every $5,000 in spend, but you can also reach Gold Elite status simply by spending $35,000 on the card in a calendar year.

Perhaps the most valuable perk is the annual free night award (worth up to 35,000 points) at each account anniversary — though again, Marriott’s lack of award charts could hinder your ability to use this reward.

ERIC HELGAS/THE POINTS GUY

Annual fee: $0.

Sign-up bonus: For a limited time, earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening.

Is it worth it?

The 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points alone are worth $252, but the card also comes with 15 elite night credits annually (putting you at automatic Silver Elite status) and has no foreign transaction fees.

You’ll earn 3 points per dollar at Marriott properties, 2 points per dollar on all other travel purchases and 1 point per dollar everywhere else.

Overall, this is a solid set of perks for a card with no annual fee. However, more frequent Marriott guests would likely be better off springing for either of the higher-tier options.

Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card

THE POINTS GUY

Annual fee: $125 (see rates and fees).

Welcome offer: Earn 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points after you use your new card to make $3,000 in eligible purchases within the first three months of card membership.

Is it worth it?

If you qualify for a small-business credit card, this current offer has the potential to be quite lucrative. The 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points are an enticing offer, worth $630 according to TPG's points valuations.

This card added new benefits without an increase in the annual fee back in July 2022. You’ll now get automatic Gold Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy, unlocking 25% bonus points on paid stays, late checkout, premium internet, a welcome gift of points on each stay and room upgrades (based on availability at check-in). Additionally, you’ll receive a 7% discount on rooms booked directly with Marriott, as well as earn 4 points per dollar spent at restaurants both in the U.S. (no change in this benefit) and now worldwide (an effective doubling of the earn rate).

The card also comes with 15 elite night credits annually (which can be stacked with a Marriott Bonvoy consumer card) and a free night award annually (worth up to 35,000 points). In addition, a second free night (also worth up to 35,000 points) can be earned after you spend $60,000 in purchases on your card in a calendar year.

Marriott’s shift to dynamic pricing may make it harder to use these rewards, but you should be able to find a participating property that can cover your annual fee (and then some), as our data indicates that there’s still a lot of value in the program.

Other benefits include premium on-property internet access and no foreign transaction fees (see rates and fees).

Can you apply for more than one Marriott card offer?

MARRIOTT

If multiple Marriott card offers are intriguing to you, you can indeed have more than one open Marriott card — some people in TPG’s office have two or three. It can make sense to leverage the annual anniversary award nights and to stack the 15-25 elite nights awarded by carrying both a personal and small-business Marriott card.

However, now with six total Marriott cards currently available for new applicants, there are a fair number of restrictions on who can earn the sign-up bonuses across the available cards — especially since you’re working across two different issuers with Amex and Chase.

To give a specific example, if you have the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex card for your small-business spending but decide you want to jump on the Bonvoy Brilliant Amex card for its welcome offer and perks, you could theoretically have both of those cards and their bonuses.

Note that these restrictions are all in addition to Chase’s 5/24 rule (which applies to new applicants of the Bonvoy Boundless and Bonvoy Bold cards) and Amex’s one-bonus-per-lifetime rule (which applies to new applicants of the Bonvoy Brilliant and the Bonvoy Business cards).

So, you’ll want to make sure you’re eligible for these offers before applying.
