Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Dumping Ice – What to Do

Do the following if the ice maker in your Samsung refrigerator is not dumping ice:

1. Check the Ice in the Ice Bucket

Take the ice bucket out of the refrigerator and check the ice inside it if there is any. Removing the ice maker depends on which model of the Samsung refrigerator you have.

However, it is usually pretty straightforward to do – pull it straight out or grab the bottom, lift and pull out as you do so.

If the ice in the bucket appears in clumps, it would explain the dumping problem. To fix this, apply some heat to it. This can be as simple as leaving the ice bucket out for some time or leaving the door of the freezer open.

You can throw any chunk of ice that does not break during the defrost into your sink. Doing this allows other smaller chunks to melt to dispensable sizes. Besides, the ice dispenser cannot dispense large chunks and it is usually impossible for the auger to break them.

Clumped ice cannot dump easily and it is usually caused by irregular dispensing.

In other words, if you don’t use the ice maker regularly, the auger of the ice maker won’t come on to break the ice into cubes. As a result, it will fuse together.

Note: When putting the ice bucket back in, ensure it enters and sets correctly. If not, the auger motor may work in releasing ice but there will be none in the bucket because the ice maker is not sensing it.

Change the angle of the bucket somewhat when inserting it until it gets incorrectly.

2. Check the Child Lock Feature

If the Child Lock function is active, it locks the dispenser and the display. So even if there is ice dumped in the ice bucket, you won’t be able to dispense it. Some Samsung refrigerator models have a dispenser lock feature and it could be on if you have such a model.

To disable the Child Lock or dispenser lock, consult the user manual of the refrigerator to see instructions.

3. Check the Raker in the Ice Maker

Not all ice makers come equipped with a raker. But if your Samsung ice maker has one, check to see if there is any chunk of ice lodged in it. It would explain why the ice maker is not able to dispense ice.

If there is, dislodge the chunk using your hand. And if there is excess ice inside the ice maker, reduce it to enable the raker to move the ice around.

The raker distributes the ice in the ice maker evenly before dispensing. Doing this sometimes prevents ice from forming into chunks. However, if ice happens to clump or fuse together to form chunks, these chunks can stop the raker from working. And if the raker does not work, it is likely the ice maker won’t dispense ice.

4. Check the Ice Dispenser

Take a look inside the ice chute to see if there is any chunk of ice stuck in there. This is another reason why there would be no ice dumping from the ice maker.

If there is ice in it, gently prod the chunk to try breaking it. If this does not work, pour some warm water down the chute. You can also opt to give the ice some time to melt naturally.

Sometimes, ice can go into the chute in the wrong manner and jam in there. This blocks other ice cubes from getting dispensed. And if the ice is not dislodged, others will join and form an even larger chunk over time.

5. Check the Auger Motor

Inspect the auger motor at the back of the wall of the freezer to see whether or not it is frozen. If it is, it means there is nothing to push the ice cubes towards the dispenser and into the ice bucket.

Therefore, manually depress the lever that controls the auger to get it running. When it does, the heat from it will thaw the ice around it. Doing this fixes the problem but not permanently.

There is s a reason why water got behind the wall, into the motor and froze there. You need to find out how and why. And because this fix stresses the auger motor, it may cause damage to it. In addition, the excess moisture could permanently damage it.

6. Be Sure There Is Ice

This should be the first thing to do – checking the ice bucket to be sure there is ice in it. More times than not, this is the problem. You could assume the ice maker is producing ice whereas it is not even on.

Therefore, if there is no ice in the bucket, ensure the ice maker is on and the ice function is enabled. When it is on Ice Off, there will be no ice. And when the shut-off arm is not functioning properly, there will be no ice.

Also, be sure the water valve is supplying water to the ice maker. This entails checking the water pressure and connections of the valve. You can check the solenoid of the valve using a multimeter to check for continuity and power.
