What does an adults only resort mean

If you’re looking for a couples retreat or just want to get away with friends, then adult only hotels could be the way forward. Adult only hotels offer a chilled out atmosphere, where you can enjoy grown up company. As these hotels are solely focused on adults, it generally means you get a high quality range of cuisine as well as entertainment which is targeted for an older audience. If you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy some adult company then I’d certainly recommend considering an adult only hotel.

I’ve picked out 2 great hotels in Spain to give you an idea of what you can expect from an adults only holiday.

Riu San Francisco Hotel, Majorca

What does an adults only resort mean

This month the Riu San Francisco is becoming completely renovated into a new over 18’s hotel. The hotel, which was originally opened in 1953, is being updated with a new sleek, modern design. The hotel is located in the ideal location of Playa De Palma in Majorca, meaning it benefits from the beautiful white sandy beaches and is within walking distance of the lovely city of Palma. The San Francisco is great for couples looking to relax and enjoy both the city and beach, as well as any groups that might want to sample Majorca’s grown up nightlife. The hotel is literally footsteps away from the beachfront (10m to be exact) and if that’s not for you, there is a swimming pool which faces the coast. The hotel has free WiFi in all areas and has a shiny new gym and wellness centre, complete with complementary Jacuzzi and Hammam (additional treatments available at additional costs). The hotel offers a half board basis and has a buffet style restaurant with food that has been highly recommended by previous guests. This hotel is bound to be popular this summer, particularly with the new plush design and additional features.

Riu Don Miguel Hotel, Gran Canaria

What does an adults only resort mean

Set within the Playa Del Ingles resort of Gran Canaria, the Riu Don Miguel hotel offers a peaceful and comfortable retreat in the sun. It has also been given a fresh refurbishment and the rooms are decorated to a high standard. One of the great things about this adults only hotel is that it offers a relaxed atmosphere, yet is within close distance to all of the excitement of Playa del Ingles and Masapalomas, which has plenty of nightlife, restaurants and beaches to explore. The Masapalomas sand dunes are a great day trip, and fun if you hire quad bikes! Those looking for some nightlife will find that the Kasbah Centre has plenty of choice, with top names such as Pascha, Cream and the Ministry of Sound residing here. So enough about what’s outside of the hotel, inside the hotel there is a shiny new a’la carte restaurant called Body’s where you can eat all of your evening meals. For those who don’t want to spend all day by the pool (I don’t include myself here) there is a new gym which is available to all guests. Speaking of the pool,  the sun loungers around the swimming pool are really comfy, ideal for staying cool whilst sunbathing!

So what do you say, are you tempted to go adult only?

One of the best places to start when choosing an all-inclusive resort is to figure out what type of resort you want to go to- either adults-only, couples-only,or all-ages. These three basic categories define resorts’ target markets, which can give you an idea of their atmosphere and amenities. It’s the simplest way to start narrowing down your resort choices, whether you’ve chosen a destination or not.

Beaches® Turks & Caicos

We’ll start with All-ages resorts, which are pretty self-explanatory. These resorts have amenities for both adults and children and are usually geared towards families. There may be an adults-only bar or area, but the majority of the resort is open to everyone. Most have kid-friendly pools, activities, games, and food, and many even have baby sitting or day care available so that parents can have some time to themselves. Since children are welcome, all-ages resorts tend to be a little louder and more active- but they still make sure adults have a good time. There are some upscale resorts that allow children, but don’t necessarily cater towards them- like Zoetry. This resort brand is very upscale and doesn’t provide child-focused amenities- so there usually aren’t many children there. Make sure to pay attention to the descriptions and amenities to see if the resort suits your needs. Examples of all-ages resorts that are family-friendly are Beaches, Dreams, and Riu Resorts.

Breathless Punta Cana

Adults-only
resorts do not allow children. The minimum age allowed differs by resort, but is usually either 18+ or 21+. If you’re between the ages of 18 and 21, ask your travel agent to make sure you meet the minimum check in age. Adults-only resorts can have different atmospheres- some are more active and lively, while others are more tranquil and romantic. Either way, they offer an upscale and sophisticated vacation where you won’t have children running around and splashing you in the pool. Whether you’re single or attached, just find the resort that fits what you want. If you want something more active with a nightclub, try the Hard Rock Riviera Maya’s Heaven section, which is adults-only, or Breathless Resort in Punta Cana. If you want a more tranquil and romantic atmosphere, look at Secrets Maroma Beach or Royal Hideaway Playacar.

Couples Negril

Couples-only
resorts are the best option for honeymoons and elopements, as only adult couples are allowed. The minimum age varies by resort, usually either 18+ or 21+. Again, if you’re between the ages of 18 and 21, ask about the resort’s minimum check in age. These resorts focus on creating a romantic and luxurious experience for two people in love, and no singles are allowed. Couples who are dating, engaged, or married are welcome- but they’re not going to check your relationship status before you come. If you really want to experience one of these resorts with a friend, you usually can, but you may feel out of place among all the other couples in love. Keep in mind that these are not “lifestyle” resorts with “anything goes” policies (like the famous Hedonism). These are just resorts that offer couples a relaxing and refined retreat from reality. Some do offer topless or nude sunbathing areas, but clothing is required at the rest of the resort. The activity levels of these resorts vary, so check out descriptions and reviews to see if it’s what you want. Some have a more relaxed “get lost in each other” type of feel, while others encourage socializing with activities, lively bars, and nightclubs. We recommend Sandals and Couples Resorts for your couples-only all-inclusive vacation.

Knowing the basic resort types helps narrow down your options, making it easier to find the best choice for you. Our website has special pages for adults-only and couples-only resorts, which makes finding the perfect honeymoon resort easy. You can also include the category when researching online, like “couples-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica” or just tell your travel agent. Either way, you’re one decision closer to the vacation or honeymoon of your dreams!
