If you’re looking for a couples retreat or just want to get away with friends, then adult only hotels could be the way forward. Adult only hotels offer a chilled out atmosphere, where you can enjoy grown up company. This month the Riu San Francisco is becoming completely renovated into a new over 18’s hotel. The hotel, which was originally opened in 1953, is being updated with a new sleek, modern design. The hotel is located in the ideal location of Playa De Palma in Majorca, meaning it benefits from the beautiful white sandy beaches and is within walking distance of the lovely city of Palma. The San Francisco is great for couples looking to relax and enjoy both the city and beach, as well as any groups that might want to sample Majorca’s grown up nightlife. The hotel is literally footsteps away from the beachfront (10m to be exact) and if that’s not for you, there is a swimming pool which faces the coast. The hotel has free WiFi in all areas and has a shiny new gym and wellness centre, complete with complementary Jacuzzi and Hammam (additional treatments available at additional costs). The hotel offers a half board basis and has a buffet style restaurant with food that has been highly recommended by previous guests. This hotel is bound to be popular this summer, particularly with the new plush design and additional features.

Riu Don Miguel Hotel, Gran Canaria

Set within the Playa Del Ingles resort of Gran Canaria, the Riu Don Miguel hotel offers a peaceful and comfortable retreat in the sun. It has also been given a fresh refurbishment and the rooms are decorated to a high standard. One of the great things about this adults only hotel is that it offers a relaxed atmosphere, yet is within close distance to all of the excitement of Playa del Ingles and Masapalomas, which has plenty of nightlife, restaurants and beaches to explore. The Masapalomas sand dunes are a great day trip, and fun if you hire quad bikes! Those looking for some nightlife will find that the Kasbah Centre has plenty of choice, with top names such as Pascha, Cream and the Ministry of Sound residing here. So enough about what’s outside of the hotel, inside the hotel there is a shiny new a’la carte restaurant called Body’s where you can eat all of your evening meals. For those who don’t want to spend all day by the pool (I don’t include myself here) there is a new gym which is available to all guests. Speaking of the pool,  the sun loungers around the swimming pool are really comfy, ideal for staying cool whilst sunbathing!

Adults-only resorts can have different atmospheres- some are more active and lively, while others are more tranquil and romantic. Either way, they offer an upscale and sophisticated vacation where you won’t have children running around and splashing you in the pool. Whether you’re single or attached, just find the resort that fits what you want. If you want something more active with a nightclub, try the Hard Rock Riviera Maya’s Heaven section, which is adults-only, or Breathless Resort in Punta Cana. These resorts focus on creating a romantic and luxurious experience for two people in love, and no singles are allowed. Couples who are dating, engaged, or married are welcome- but they’re not going to check your relationship status before you come. If you really want to experience one of these resorts with a friend, you usually can, but you may feel out of place among all the other couples in love. Keep in mind that these are not “lifestyle” resorts with “anything goes” policies (like the famous Hedonism). These are just resorts that offer couples a relaxing and refined retreat from reality.
