Can light cream be substituted for half

Another good way to make a substitute for half-and-half is to combine equal parts of milk and light cream (½ cup of each). This is the exact formula for half-and-half, but home cooks are more likely to have heavy cream on hand than light cream, which is why we think the first recipe is the best method.

Which is closer to heavy cream half

Heavy cream contains between 36 and 40% milkfat. Whipping cream contains between 30 and 35% milkfat. Light cream contains between 18 and 30% milkfat. Half-and-half contains between 10.5 and 18% milkfat.

What is light cream?

Light cream is cream which contains not less than 18 percent but less than 30 percent milkfat. It's also great in coffee, especially if you're looking for an especially rich cup, but it still doesn't have enough fat to be whipped successfully.

Which is better cream or half

Half and half has the same vitamins and minerals as heavy cream, with a lower fat content and fewer calories per tablespoon. This might be a better swap for heavy cream or flavored creamers if you're trying to lose weight. You can find fat-free half and half at most grocery stores.
