Hi,
On my way back from a ski trip in the french alps the ABS and Traction control warning lights came on and stayed on - also it started telling me to 'service 4wd system' and 'service elec system' and at the same time the sat-nav stopped working and showed me i was still near Geneva, when i turned the engine off everything would be ok for about 1/2hr or so..

Tried the key thing with no luck.

Help please..

really bro....it could be a number of things and it could just be an electrical glitch common with the traction systems and to the WK/WH. I would remove the negative on the battery and push the brake pedal several times to clear all the codes/lights.

Was the traction system under heavy load during the drive...ie snow, slush etc?

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7. ABS light, Traction control light help P0700

Any advice for the ABS light, traction control light being on along with the message of service Elec Brake system, service 4WD System. It's for a 2005 Jeep Grand cherokee 4.7. I had the ABS module replaced by my dealership, they told me my cluster was bad because message center didn't work. They couldn't get one and couldn't put a used one in. So I ordered a cluster put it in and got the errors above. It does randomly shift into 3rd while driving or directly after starting it (even did that before dealership looked at it but their transmission guy was backed up so couldn't look at it) I did the key dance and got the code of P0700. Any help is appreciated.

LOTS GOING ON THERE - dealer could NOT get 'cluster' but you were able to acquire one?
good -

elec brake light - the ABS module has detected a failure in your ABS system. the traction control relies heavily on the ABS sensors and components.

where to start-
you did the key on off trick- a handy way to get started BUT it is LACKING it will not display ALL codes, it will not report ABS or traction control issues

the p0700 code is generic, it advises that the transmission has ask the CEL be turned on and has set codes and there are likely transmission codes.

I am thinking electrical issues - any noticeable issues or history? recently acquired, flood, accident, fire, ADDED electrical devices, alarm remote starter?
this will require a prfessional scanner to get the codes that key trick cannot access...

Do a check of fuses under hood and in vehicle - test not just look...

sorry no easy pinpoint test to offer.

yeah, the dealer was 'trying' to find someone to rebuild my original cluster. And as a dealer they are not allowed to install used parts. They were also unable (or unwilling) to tell me if the cluster would be plug and play or if it would need flashed to work correctly with my vehicle.

with the elect brake light and traction control lights on, and them relying on the ABS system. Shouldn't they have found an issue with them when it was checked out and they found that the ABS module needed to be replaced?

We have tested fuses, no problems with them.

Yes, it is a newly acquired vehicle. I knew cluster was bad because my speed odometer and message center did not work, and thought that would be an easy fix. Yes, it seems that I should have not taken that gamble. Hindsight is 20/20.

Guess it may be another trip back to the dealership, but I feel they are trying to take advantage of me.

try having the system scanned for codes- post all codes.
the ABS and traction control system,
other codes such as U - the communication codes- computer 'internet' . B and C should be te ABS...

did you google ;instrument clusters on google*- available used. repaired, re manufactured, MAYBE the dealer who worked this vehicle will supply codes- any professional repair facility should be able to access all modules....post the info MAYBE we will spot something...

Ok had a free scan on it and got the following list of codes:

P2706, P0700, C100A, U1503, U0100, U0141, U140E, C2202, U0114.

I actually bought the cluster from a junk yard (they said they tested it and guaranteed it to work. I have 30 days to return it if there are problems with it). The dealer that worked on it wants to charge me a fee again to rescan for codes. I find it hard to believe all of these codes just popped up when I changed the cluster.

Update

I replaced the wheel speed sensor that was listed in the codes. The wire was cut in half. So far that seems to have taken care of the ABS, Traction control lights, as well as the messages that say service Electric Brake and Service 4 WD systems.

Guess I will drive it around for a few more days to see how things go. Hopefully all is well now.

Thank you for help.

Why is the ABS and traction control light on in my Jeep?

The ABS and Traction Control lights come on whenever the vehicle's computer or PCM detects a malfunction, a faulty wheel sensor, or other mechanical failures. These warning lights do not imply anything severe by themselves but may point to a graver problem when paired with the main brake light going off.

Can you drive with ABS and traction light on?

If the TCS and the ABS warning lights both come on, along with the red main brake warning light, you should not drive the car until the problem has been fixed. Your entire braking system is affected, and may not be able to stop your vehicle when you need it to. Have your vehicle towed to a repair shop.

What does the ESP BAS light mean on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The ESP BAS light indicates that your Jeep's Electronic Stability Program (ESP) or your Brake Assist Program (BAS) aren't functioning as they should. These systems are vital to the safety of your vehicle and any problems should be addressed as soon as possible.

Why is my brake ABS and ESP light on?

The most common reason the ESP light illuminates is because of a faulty ABS sensor or ABS ring. It can also be caused by issues like a bad throttle body, brake pedal switch, or steering sensor. If it's blinking while driving on a slippery surface, it's working correctly. The ESP works together with the ABS.
