Went to close my sunshade the other day (something I rarely do) and noticed the shade was creased/folded on the passenger side (see pics). I'm guessing it's off the track.

I am curious if anyone has had a similar problem and attempted to fix themselves. I didn't see any TSBs or similar for this when searching the forum and naturally my warranty expired in Nov 2014.

This time last year I took my Jeep in for a loud squeaking noise that I would only hear on cold mornings from the rear passenger side and the dealership couldn't pinpoint to fix; a noise I am still listening too. After reading some of the other issues fellow owners experienced with their pano-roofs I now wonder if the two are related.

Also, when I close my pano-roof from VENT mode it opens back up, as if there is something in the way. In order to close it I have to fully open my roof and then close. Anyone else have this?

Thanks,

Something being in the way might explain both problems. Maybe there's some leave matter or twigs etc. in there. Take a look with a flashlight/mirror.

Once had an automatic sliding door on a minivan that was sometimes closing slowly and sometimes reversing itself back open. I found a pencil in the channel. Removing it fixed the problem.

I just posted my issue elsewhere. My shade started to buckle or wrinkle this morning upon attempting to close it. I haven't had this issue before so what gives all of a sudden?

I'm not sure either, haven't been able to find anything online. Not a huge concern to me because I leave the shade rolled-up or 'open' but still annoying.

My bigger concern was the vent setting but that seems to have corrected itself because I've had no issues lately.

Hey man,

My pano sunroof when rolling itself back out to close it last night, for whatever strange reason, made a noise towards the end and seemed as though the sides have pulled off the "track".

Wondering what ever happened to yours, can I get an update?

Thanks!

Nathan

Hey there, wish I could help but less than a month after that post I traded in my Overland for a Wrangler Rubicon.

Sorry....

Hey Quickduk, any updates on yours? Were you able to fix or was the dealer able to do it? Was it under warranty?

Thanks!

As an FYI to future readers, (since this seems to be a pretty rare problem and I had a hard time tracking down others with it on the internet), I heated the car, tried to push the material back into the track, and then rolled/opened the sun shade fully. After driving this way for a few weeks, I finally worked up the courage to close (unroll) it.

Bingo, it fixed itself. Probably depends on the extent of the damage. I would suggest caution when closing sun shade when the car is cold and in a at/sub zero C environment in future.

Mine has gone to sh*t also, drivers side, but it's baaaad. It's off the track about 12 inches with no hope in sight. I tried fixing this last summer and I can manage to coax it back into the track by applying a little pressure while peaking in from the top of the shade as it closes, but without taking the entirety of the headliner down/out, i'm not sure what else can be done. I don't want to bring it to the stealership because I'm out of warranty and don't want to get bent, but I'd also like to get this fixed. But as of right now, the way I see it, I can either bend and twist myself to coax it back in the track upon closing and leave it closed knowing that if I open it I need to do that again to close it, or I just open and leave it opened.

This issue with sun blind material out of track and out of shape can be resolved by firstly tucking fabric edge back into track when sun blind is fully closed and leaving vehicle in sun for day or 2. The Sun shade material will tighten during this period. Appears to be result of using sun shade retraction and closing at half way stop point over period to where the sun shade material runs out of alignment and goes slack at one side of rear passenger side giving the appearance of failure with the sun blind material or blind roller which is neither.

Seems the sun shade has uneven tension applied. Push sun screen back into track when Sun screen is in full closed position. Allow the vehicle to sit in sun for 1 to 2 days. The sun screen fabric will retighten itself and become taught again. Think unevenness of fabric tension comes from moving sun screen to half point And open and closing It frequently and not fully retracting sun screen often enough to unbind tension changes on fabric.

Correct. Does fix itself. However, this is what I found. The sun shade fabric was out of track and sagging same as yours. I scoped in the rear roof interior with camera to find nothing wrong with material or roller. Mine also made dragging sound like scratching material when closing sunshade near full closing position. How did I fix it? With sun screen fully closed, tucked fabric hanging out of track back into track, sun screen at that point was still sloppy. Left vehicle in hot sun for couple days and sun shade fabric where slop was became taught like magic. No more issues since.

So, I recently had this problem with my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I took it to the dealership, they told me $1250 to fix it.. I decided to at least try and fix it myself.. After a few hours of working to remove the headliner, I was able to access the rear end of the sunroof and have a better look at the fabric roller. There was no tension on the fabric and the motor is on the front, so it would need a spring. I was able to manually roll the fabric back a bit, but could tell there wasn't any spring tension..

I proceeded with removing the rest of the headliner, (what a pain!!!) and lowered the sunroof a bit. I removed the fabric roller center.. it is a spring.. and the Plastic end of it has snapped in half. This is really a bad design for Arizona. This black fabric is in the sun all day, not only is that going to play havoc on the fabric, the plastic parts won't last..

I was thinking of 3dprinting a part to fix this, but it wouldn't last in the heat.
$325 for a new one... but I saved $1000 in labor doing it myself.. Once I get the new one, I'll have to figure out how to get the fabric out on the front part.

Fun stuff

How did you get it back in the track...with a putty knife?

I gather by removing rear sun roof fixed glass depicted in images this would be sufficient to access roller sun blind and roller mechanism without removing headliner?
Thanks to confirm.
