Hi Emma,

I just had my 4th (birth) child.  It can take ages for your periods to get back to normal.

I have breast fed my babies and sometimes I dont get a period till I stop, other times I get them back much sooner.  Then they come a go a bit and can take a good year to get back to a routine.

It doesnt sound like you are pregnant (not after 7 tests! :D)

Remember what it was like when you first started your periods?  You get one then nothing, then two in a row etc.  Its a bit like that after you have a baby.

Dont worry

What is it that you are worried about?

It sounds pretty normal to me but if you think something could be wrong its best to see your GP and ask.

Otherwise you are just going to get more anxious.

Hope you sort it out soon.

i agree with becki's OP. every pregnancy is different as well so just because they came straight back before doesnt mean they will follow the same pattern this time.
if you are still worried tho do go and get checked over at the gp to put your mind at rest

Hi Emma

Firstly

Can the 2nd period after delivery be irregular or late
I can sense that you are feeling anxious.

It could be that your hormones are still adjusted after you gave birth.

I would suggest that you see your GP tomorrow or you could phone NHS Direct tonight 0845 4647.

You may need a blood test taken to check your hormone levels, this can check pg hormone levels.

Do let me know how you get on.

How long can periods be irregular after childbirth?

Some women get their period as little as eight weeks after birth, others may not get their period for a year or longer—that's a pretty big range! Our bodies are all different and countless factors can influence when you get your period after pregnancy, but the biggest one is whether you're breastfeeding or not.

How long does it take for cycles to regulate after birth?

If you choose to breastfeed exclusively, your first period may not return for several months — sometimes, it might not even return for 1 to 2 years if you keep breastfeeding. If you choose to bottle feeding or partially breastfeed your baby, your periods may return as soon as 3 weeks after childbirth.
