3.0 out of 5 stars Leaky Coffee Maker
Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2017

I bought this coffee maker 9 months ago and at first I really liked it. I got tired of looking at the normal makers with the glass container so I decided to get this fancy looking one here. Well about 3 weeks ago it started to leak coffee. The leak comes from the brewed coffee dispenser, there is a metal plate in the middle of it and this is where it is leaking. The pictures below only shows some of the spilled coffee. I was standing right by the coffee maker trying to get the coffee into my cup as soon as it was brewed and it still leaked quite a bit. Since it is under warranty I sent an email to request a new part, it took about 1 week for them to agree that yes it was under warranty and they would send me a replacement for the damaged part. I had to pay $5.99 for shipping and as of today I still have not received that part. If this happens call them, don't send an email as this only delays the process because they keep asking questions. I don't mind paying the shipping fee as this is very understandable but I do mind that it's been almost 2 weeks since I paid said fee and have yet to received my replacement part. I want some real coffee! After it breaks again in 9 months, I will be going back to the boring coffee maker I had before. I gave it 3 starts because I really liked this product up until it leaked coffee all over my counter top.

I love this coffee maker, no leaky carafe to mess with. It is easy to use. The only complaint is that it is only 10 cups and not 12. Other than that, its great.

Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2016

I bought this coffeemaker because I was familiar with the brand as we have 2 more Hamilton Beach coffeemakers. My husband & I don't drink the same type of coffee so we each had our own Hamilton Beach coffeemaker. He has a 12 cup one and I had a 4 cup one. My 4 cup one still works just fine but I have recently felt the need to drink more coffee than I use to & the 4 cups were no longer enough for me.

The dilemma was that I had only a small space for a coffeemaker so that was why I chose the 10 cup maker instead of the 12. The day I got this new coffeemaker I immediately washed all the parts and then made 8 cups of coffee. This was when I discovered that the measurement of "cup" is not accurate on the bucket. My coffeemaker is in a place whereas after I raise the lid to pour water in the reservoir there is not enough room to use the bucket. So that is when I decided to use my 2 cup measuring cup to pour water into the reservoir. I filled the bucket up with water to the 8 cup line and then I proceeded to pour that water into my measuring cup and use the cup to pour the water into the reservoir. Instead of having 8 cups of coffee as the maker showed on the bucket, in reality I really only had about 6 cups. But no problem, I could live with that, just make a bigger pot of coffee. Then the next thing I found out was that my Starbuck coffee cup would not fit under the dispenser--the cup was too tall. This puzzled me because I could easily get a cup of coffee with this Starbuck cup with my old 4 cup coffeemaker--which is a smaller coffeemaker! So now I have to have this coffeemaker sitting on the edge of the counter in order to get my cup under the dispenser.

But I have to tell you the biggest pro of all about this coffeemaker--the temperature of the coffee is great! I like my coffee hot and with other coffee makers I usually have to put my cup into the microwave & nuke it for a few more seconds to get it to the temperature that I like. And my coffee was delicious and no burnt taste at all. Before I went to bed I washed everything again and then set it back up to brew coffee the next morning. Now I have to tell you that I made a very stupid mistake with setting up the timer. I programed the clock and the programmer as I have always programed Hamilton Beach Brew Stations--nothing new to learn. The stupid part came in when I set up the clock. Because I have bad eye sight and the clock is not lit up, instead of setting the clock up with PM (which is what it was at the time) I set the clock to AM. So the next morning my coffee was not brewed even though I re-checked the program and saw where the right time was set. It was not until hours later that it suddenly dawned on me that I should have checked the clock too. That was when I discovered I had not set the PM/AM time right!

So would I buy this coffeemaker again? Most definitely even though I wished I could put my Starbuck cup under the dispenser and I wished that the clock was back lite. Just having good hot coffee fills my needs.

PROS
No Carafe to break.
Makes very good coffee, including great Iced Coffee
Doesn't burn the coffee, even after 4 hours
Has an adjustable timer to schedule automatic brewing (love this - I make the coffee before bed, set the timer, and have a freshly brewed pot of coffee ready right when I get up!)
Three brewing settings, a "Default/Standard" setting, a setting for brewing 1-4 cups, and a setting to brew more "BOLD" coffee.
Has a sensor which reminds you when it's time to clean it.

CONS
Takes 10 minutes to brew a pot.
(I understand in these days of impatience, people get all hurt if anything takes more time than it takes to put your hand out. However, personally, I don't care - With the timer, the coffee's ready when I get up, but I figured I had to put at least one "Con".)

REVIEW
We've been using BrewStation coffeemakers for at least 6 years now. Like all coffee machines, they wear out and need to be replaced. Our last one went for about 3 years, and was finally starting to break down. Even with regular cleanings, scale can build up & the coffee can start to take on a more "bitter" flavor. People have experienced problems with the "pot" leaking, and this seems related to plastic bonding breaking down, which leads to leakage from the pot that gets both into the water reservoir & down the back to the counter. I expect it anytime after 2 years, but apparently some people have seen this quickly. If it's within a few months, or even a year, I suspect a manufacturing problem with the particular machine. The only couple of times we've had to contact Hamilton Beach Customer Service (1 earlier BrewStation model 5 years ago with a clock problem out of the box, and a hand mixer) they've been quite helpful & responsive, sending us a replacement which worked fine.

That said, this coffee maker works quite well. Brew time seems to run 7-10 minutes - shorter for standard brew settings, longer for the "Bold" or "1-4 cups" setting.

A newer feature that our old model didn't have was a meter to tell you how much water to pour into the reservoir for X number of cups. The feature has been included in this model. As such, I don't find making coffee any more of a project than with a standard machine - pour water in the reservoir, put a filter & coffee into the machine, and put the "pot" in place then push a button.

Coffee tastes great, and iced coffee is easy to make as well.

A bonus travel mug was included with the machine. It is JUST a bit too tall to fit directly under the spout in a straight up-and-down orientation, but it's really not an issue if you have the dozen IQ points necessary to simply tip the cup forward a bit.

An alternate page for this same machine has several reviews. The bulk of the 1-2 star reviews center on people complaining that the pour spout is "too close" and they can't get their coffee cups filled without spilling coffee down the front of the machine.
The only reason I can see of this happening is by trying to force a travel mug (either the included one, or another similar sized one) in a way that doesn't work, or they're tipping other cups back. Either way, if you have a problem, just move your hand a couple of millimeters - The spout is placed completely adequately for any cup. I've used a half dozen different types and have to intentionally hold the cup in a certain way to force it to spill. (And that's BIG ones - 16-24 ounce cups & mugs - not little doll set china teacups - I like my coffee!)

Overall this model seems great & I don't expect any problems with it for at least the next 2-3 years. And at $60, quite a deal.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Despertar con el Aroma del Café

Reviewed in Mexico on November 2, 2018

Estamos Disfrutando nuestra Tercera Cafetera Hamilton Beach.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks on counter when trying to fill mug

Reviewed in Canada on June 7, 2020

I replaced a carafe style coffee maker that constantly leaked with this Hamilton Beach Dispensing concept which seems like a good idea. Problem is that when trying to fill a coffee mug the spigot leaks behind the mug leaving a spill on the counter. I am trying to see if I can modify the unit in some way to not leak.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy

I have had HB Brewstation coffemakers for the last 20 years. Mine gave out a month ago, the seal broke but HB dont sell the replacement part. So I ordered the same model and when I brewed the first pot of coffee it leaked all over the place when I pressed the dispenser. I contacted HB, they gave me some suggestions, all that didn't work, so they sent me a replacement. The replacement coffee maker did the same thing, leaked all over the counter from the dispenser when pressing the cup to fill. Totally ticked off at their quality control. I've emailed HB again to get their response.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great compromise between standard and pod coffee makers

Reviewed in Canada on September 7, 2015

After turfing my last machine, I was thinking about switching to a Keurig idea, but I am not a fan of the costly individual pods. This machine is the perfect midpoint between a typical carafe and a pod machine. It keeps the coffee hot for hours after it's made (great if you work from home) and brews quick. Only three minor complaints: (1) The place you pour the water is very small/awkward, and can result in water all over the place, (2) you have to set the automatic brew time EVERY night rather than having a recurring time, and (3) the "cups" measurement on the outside carafe is so wrong; definitely not a 10-cup machine.

Reviewed in Canada on July 20, 2017

I read a lot of reviews before deciding to purchase this coffee maker. The top is flimsy, as others have stated, but it doesn't negatively affect my experience. The coffee is SUPER hot, which surprised me the first time I had a cup. I would have liked a 12 cup version, but the cost difference is probably not worth it. My travel mug doesn't fit under this machine, unless I pull it to the edge of the counter - but I had expected this from other reviews. It's easy to clean, which is also important to me. Overall, it is a great machine and the more economic choice between the two sizes, for me.

Why is my Hamilton Beach BrewStation leaking?

Why is my BrewStation tank leaking? You may have buildup in the tank seal. Turn the brew tank upside down over the kitchen sink, then press the dispensing valve (on the bottom of the tank) and flush with water for 30 seconds.

Is the Hamilton Beach 12 cup coffee maker BPA free?
