Apologies in advance for slighting anyone hanging out for - let me check my notes - yes, Mutant Storm Empire.
Xbox One is now home to three more Xbox 360 games, made magically playable on the new hardware through the power of backwards compatibility. The latest titles to join the ever-growing list are Tekken 6, Midway Arcade Origins and Mutant Storm Empire. The full list of backwards compatible titles is always available on Major Nelson's blog and is becoming seriously impressive at 322 games. Recent noteworthy additions include Battlefield 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Catherine and Bully (Canis Canem Edit). Tekken 6 came out in 2009 but it's still current among fighting fans, because this many years on we're still waiting for the sequel; Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Street Fighter x Tekken just aren't the same. Luckily, Tekken 7 hit Japanese arcades in 2015 and is gearing up for home console release worldwide in the first quarter of 2017. Hopefully. Microsoft essentially put an end to their popular backwards compatibility program for Xbox two years ago with no new titles being added, but it turns out that wasn't quite the end after all. The company announced today one final update to the list of compatible games is dropping today bringing in 76 titles in total, including Mortal Kombat (2011) and several other fighting games previously stuck on older hardware. Despite being one of the biggest fighters of its era, the reboot of Mortal Kombat remained stuck on the Xbox 360 up until now, and it's not the only game from the series making the final cut. Out of all things, you'll now be able to make Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe look better than before with HDR support on the Xbox Series X|S. From the remaining additions, there are three more fighting games, which are Dead or Alive Ultimate, Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive 4. The program comes to a close with thousands of older titles being preserved on new hardware where The King of Fighters 13, Street Fighter 4, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Soul Calibur 2 HD and everyone's favorite Girl Fight remain available.
You can find the full list of new backwards compatible titles here There are still many fighting games left with their hopes of backwards compatibility dashed one more time, however, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Darkstalkers Resurrection, Street Fighter X Tekken, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition, Soul Calibur 4, Capcom vs. SNK 2 and others will stay tied to the 360. Other notable inclusions in the update are 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, Binary Domain, the F.E.A.R. games, the Max Payne series, Nier, Manhunt, Red Dead Revolver, Skate 2, and TimeSplitters 2 plus Future Perfect. Like the other backwards compatible titles, players can simply pop in their old discs (unless they own a digital-only console like the Xbox Series S) or download previous purchases to get them going. Every original Xbox and 360 game updated today supports Auto HDR on the Xbox Series X|S systems while original Xbox titles can see a resolution increase up to 4x as well. Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is currently available to PlayStation 4/5 owners via the PlayStation Now service although the PC version still can't be purchased on Steam.
