There is no Discover Card routing number. No credit card has one. And that’s because credit card numbers and security codes serve the same purpose as a routing number on a bank account. A routing number is a bank’s electronic address, used to transfer funds between checking accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts, prepaid cards and more. For example, if you have a checkbook, the leftmost number listed on the bottom of any check is your bank’s routing number. It’s nine digits.

So when you make purchases with your credit card, you’ll only ever need two things other than your card number: the security code and expiration date. On Discover credit cards, the security code is three-digits long and listed on the back of your card. The expiration date is located next to the words “Valid Thru.” You also won’t need a routing number to make balance transfers. That will require the account number for the card you currently owe the balance on, the amount you want to transfer, and personal info such as your SSN and income.

But even though Discover cards don’t have a routing number, you still might need to use a routing number in connection with your Discover card. For example, if you want to link a bank account to your card for making payments, you’ll need the bank’s routing number.

If you’re interested in the general Discover Bank routing number direct deposit, wire transfers and other types of transactions, it’s 031100649. It’s possible that this routing number could change in the future, but Discover will give you advance notice.

Credit cards don't have routing numbers. Only banks do.

For what? It's not like a random bank, so all the info you'll need is right there on your credit card: card number, security code and expiration date.
