Model Number WRF736SDAM14 Brand Whirlpool Age 1-5 years I filled a 5 gallon jug with water from my Whirlpool side by side, exterior water dispenser. A short time after. I went for a glass of water and it wouldn’t
dispense anything. It hummed like it does but no water. What could have happened?

Ok, how this works is--->Water flows out of the primary water valve into the water filter. It then flows out of the water filter into the secondary water valve (after the water filter). The secondary water valve has two outlets, one for water and one for the ice maker. When the dispenser is calling for water (lever pressed) the solenoid for water on the primary water valve and
the solenoid for water on the secondary water valve are energized and water flows out of the secondary water valve from the outlet going to the dispenser. So you will need to pull the refrigerator out from the wall, then remove the plastic water line tubing underneath the primary water inlet valve then get a container to hold water in, and see if water comes out of the primary water inlet valve when you press the water dispenser lever. Here's the primary water inlet valve for your
model: Watch this video it shows you how to remove that plastic water line tubing: Let us know how it goes. Jake
I will let you know. Thanks. Does this happen after dispensing water continuously for a while? I doubt the coincidence.

Hey Jake. I got as far as what’s shown on my video still attachment. I could not remove the hose from the valve like they easily demonstrated. I grabbed the end of the white hose and squeezed it as I was pulling, but it wouldn’t slide out at all. What am I missing? F4512EA3-DC50-41B0-BA3C-939E368410BA.jpeg 452.7 KB · Views: 116
I got the hose off. A little water came out right then. And when the water dispenser was depressed, water shot out from the inlet valve! So I guess the primary inlet valve is not the problem. But what’s next? Thanks Jake. JakeAppliance Tech - Admin
Ok good, so your primary water inlet valve is fine. Now onto the secondary water inlet valve: There is a video in the Water Inlet Valve WPW10341329 here: Jake
Alright, I see how to access and remove the secondary. But I’m just detaching the hose like I did on the Primary - and depressIng the water dispenser?
I was successful accessing and removing the secondary valve hose. (Only one of the 2 hoses- and the one that had the same color scheme as on the primary. No water. Is the secondary not functioning or broken? Thank you Jake.
Also, I reconnected the wires and water filter and just left the hose hanging out. I closed the fridge door and depressed the water dispenser for a couple of seconds to find no water on the paper towel I draped across a lower shelve inside.

Yes, then the problem is the secondary valve, order it and you should be back in business. Jake
Thank you for helping me identify the problem. Could it be, that filling that 5 gallon jar caused it to break? I won’t do it again if you think there’s a chance. Thanks again for all your time and expertise. Jeff JakeAppliance Tech - Admin
Could it be, that filling that 5 gallon jar caused it to break? I won’t do it again if you think there’s a chance. I wouldn't say that would be the cause alone, unless you ALWAYS fill that 5 gallon jar on a daily basis, then yes that can wear it out faster. Jake
Thankfully no. I sterilized a 5 gallon glass jug and filled it with fridge water for emergency. But if that process burned out a motor or something, it might not be worth it to try again. You’ve been very helpful getting me to the problem with my fridge. Hopefully replacing the secondary will be the end of this. I’ll let you know. Jeff JakeAppliance Tech - Admin
Ok Jeff, sounds good, yes keep us posted. Jake
Ok Jeff, sounds good, yes keep us posted. Jake Water dispenser works fine now. Thank you! JakeAppliance Tech - Admin
Excellent, glad to hear the secondary water inlet valve fixed it. Thanks for the update! Jake Why is my Whirlpool refrigerator water dispenser not working?Make sure the water supply is properly connected to a cold water supply and the water shutoff valve is fully opened. Check to make sure there are no kinks in the water supply line. A kink in the line can reduce water flow. Straighten the water source line to restore adequate water flow and pressure.
What causes refrigerator water dispenser to stop working?A blocked, kinked, or frozen water line
Water can stop flowing from the fridge dispenser when supply lines become frozen, clogged, or kinked. Some water lines run through the freezer, so if the temperature is set too low, the water line will become frozen. If there is ice in the line, allow it to defrost.
