Model #UH74100 Show Only makes the noise when I press the handle release button and the brush starts spinning. I've opened up the bottom and checked the belt and it seems fine. There was a clog that I removed, but it still makes the noise. It still seems to suck and work correctly, it just makes this terrible noise. No burning smells or anything. I only had this vacuum for about 6 months, and I've used it less than 20 times since I've owned it. I have a video of the noise if that would help, but I'm not sure how to include it in this post. I did about 500sq ft the first day it was delivered. While I love his pristine and clean it got my carpets, it does have a few quirks. This is the ideal carpet cleaning machine for apartment-dwellers with pets and carpets. Even if you use a “spot eliminator” device like I do, you know eventually you need to clean larger areas of carpet a spot device just can’t handle — or you want to clean the entire carpet in your space. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to assemble the machine once you get the parts out of the box. One caveat: the cap on the solution/water bottle. Push the inside of the cap out BEFORE you position the bottle (upside-down) in the machine — otherwise it will leak. I learned this after doing the wrong thing on the first fill. This quirk should be addressed on the quick set-up card for impulsive people such as myself. The second thing I immediately noticed was how loud this machine is. It’s louder than most vacuums. I would definitely recommend not using it in the morning or evening — unless you want your neighbors to hate you. Another quirk. The price point means certain “luxury” features are gone. If you hear the noise change, that is telling you either the cleaner/water bottle is empty — or the dirty water tank is full. Fill up the cleaner and dump the dirty tank at the same time. There is no light or other mechanism other than the way the machine sounds to tell you this. Last quirk: the dirty water tank. You press the button from behind the machine and slide it out. The first time I put the handle down and was confused since no other machine I had worked this way. My advice: just take a few minutes to read the instructions. Overall, i’m in love with this machine. If you are on a budget and can forgo luxury features, this machine will be for you. If you like tons of features, you might be disappointed by this particular machine. I love that it’s small and easy to store; if you need to clean more than three large rooms, consider a machine with a wider path. Each room took me about three fills and three times emptying the dirty water tank. If you want a larger capacity machine, look for one with larger tanks and a larger cleaning path. But if you don’t mind a little extra work, this machine is a solid 4.5 stars for me (too bad I can only give 4 on Amazon’s rating — 5 Stars would be too much considering the loudness and quirks). This is the Best compact model I have used This works like a vacuum cleaner. At first I thought it was hard to clean out, but the suction front pops out easily. Pet hair gets stuck, but a bread knife and a stream of water easily removes. I also spray the bottom of the machine to get more hair out. I have found if I add a little essential oil lavender and pre-spray high traffic areas with an oxy pretreat the carpets come out beautifully. It is very easy to handle. My nine year old loves just going over the carpet to soak up all the water to get the carpet super dry. by

From hero to ZERO I was singing the praises of this compact powerhouse until I went to use it maybe the 5th time. It stained my carpet with what looks like black grease and now just makes a clunking noise and smells of any and everything ever burnt indoors! Being my first product like this I cleaned and pampered it after each use. The belt is fine, the brush is fine as well as the bearings so I can only think it is the motor which is beyond my pay-grade to repair! We have assembled it correctly (according to directions) and reassembled to ensure we did it correctly. But it will not release any water. No more smell and looked new again. Now I have a litter of puppies that have peed and pooped on the carpet. Got out my machine all excited to clean it up. Plugged it in got everything ready. I went to clean my daughters room and it was making a loud noise and I smelled a burnt rubber smell. I tore the bottom off and checked the belt. It was perfectly fine. Cleaned it even more thoroughly before replacing the bottom. Turned it back on and same thing. I shut it off and contacted Hoover. I had to send them a picture of my receipt. Then they told me to cut the power cord and peel the sticker off the old machine, take a picture and send it to them. I just got an email saying that they ordered me another one at no cost to me. Stopped working after 2 uses I lovef this for cleaning all my rugs! I live in the country in Wyoming and have four kids under 8 and every pet imaginable.
