Need a copy of my marriage license


This office records the marriage certificate which is proof that a marriage ceremony was performed in Clark County. The marriage official who performs the ceremony has ten days to submit the marriage certificate to this office for recording.  Normally a certified copy of the certificate would be available one day after the certificate has been received from the official.

All copies are folded and sent standard mail by the U.S. Post Office. Please allow up to 3 weeks to receive your order. International orders may take up to 6 weeks.


CERTIFIED COPY - A certified copy of a marriage certificate is a copy of the original certificate that was issued by the Clerk, signed by the Officiant and recorded in our office.  The copy is created from an image that we have in digital format or on microfilm.  The copy is printed on paper stock that incorporates security features.  All marriage certificate copies are certified on the front with a raised seal. This certificate may be needed for most government agencies, Catholic Church, prison visitations, adoptions, and some foreign countries.  Marriage Certificates are available for ALL marriages performed from 1909 to present.

CERTIFIED ABSTRACT OF MARRIAGE: A Marriage Abstract is a certified document that may be used for some U.S. agencies and some foreign countries.

Mail your completed Request Form with a money order, bank or cashier's check payable to the Clark County Clerk.  No personal checks are accepted for marriage license or marriage certificate copy requests. All payments must be made in U.S. dollars, and drawn from a U.S. Bank. Credit cards are not accepted through the mail.(Foreign issued money orders or checks not accepted)

Certified Copy of Confidential Marriage Certificate:

A certified copy of a Confidential Marriage Certificate is not available until 10 business days AFTER the license is received from the person solemnizing the marriage. The County Clerk's office handles certified copies of San Francisco Confidential marriage certificates. A non-refundable $17.00 record search fee will be charged. If the record is found, a certified copy of the record will be issued.  Additional certified copies are $17.00 each.  If a confidential marriage record is not found, a Certificate of No Record will be issued.  Copies may be purchased in person or by mail. We DO NOT expedite the registration of marriage licenses or orders for certified copies. Please plan accordingly.

In-Person: You are required to complete an “Application for Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage Certificate (PDF),” present valid legal photo I.D. Processing time for orders in person is approximately 20 minutes.

By Mail: You are required to complete an “Application for Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage Certificate (PDF),” sign the Sworn Statement before a Notary Public, and have your signature acknowledged by the Notary Public (notary will provide a Certificate of Acknowledgement). Mail the application, acknowledgment, money order, or personal check (from a U.S.A. issued bank, no foreign checks) including name and address payable to SF County Clerk, and include a self-addressed stamped envelope to our address.  Please note: If you require return tracking or guaranteed delivery of your fulfilled order, you must provide a prepaid return air bill guaranteeing tracking and delivery, i.e. Federal Express, USPS Priority, UPS, or other. We are not responsible for non-delivery or non-receipt of fulfilled orders by your chosen return delivery method.  Processing time for orders by mail is approximately 5 business days from receipt of application and payment.

Please note: Acknowledgements executed by Notaries Public outside of the USA are not accepted. A Sworn Statement must be taken before an Ambassador, Minister, Consul, Vice Consul, or Consular Agent of the United States, or before any Judge of a Court of record having a seal in such foreign country. Non-Confidential (Public) Marriage Certificate:

Public marriage certificates are maintained by the County Recorder in the county where you purchased your marriage license. Certified copies of San Francisco public marriage certificates are issued by the Office of the Assessor-Recorder.

How do I get a certified copy of my marriage certificate in Nevada?

In Nevada, marriage certificates are stored at the county level. To receive a copy of your marriage certificate, you must contact the County Recorder in the county where you obtained your marriage license. You will need to pay the fees payable to "County Recorder."

All Vital records can also be obtained from the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Vital Records, 2001 Maywill Street, Suite 101, Richmond, VA 23230. The general information number is 804-662-6200. Copies of marriage licenses can also be obtained from your county Clerk's Office.
